1945: Bernie Cantor and John Fitzgerald team up to create bond brokerage Cantor Fitzgerald.
1965: Equity Institutional Trading Department Formed.
1972: Cantor Fitzgerald purchases controlling interest in Telerate. Originates "screen brokerage", and introduces the world's first electronic marketplace for U.S. Government Securities.
1983: Cantor Fitzgerald becomes the first firm to offer worldwide screen brokerage services in U.S. Government Securities from new London office.
1986: Establish Japanese representative office and enter into the brokerage of Eurobonds
1991: Howard Lutnick named president of Cantor Fitzgerald.
January 1996: Cantor Fitzgerald begins using the eSpeed® system internally to conduct electronic trading.
September 1998: Cantor Exchangesm, the world's first full-time electronic exchange for trading US Treasury futures, begins operation.
March 1999: The first fully electronic transaction, using the eSpeed system, is executed by a Cantor Fitzgerald client.
December 1999 : eSpeed is spun off from Cantor Fitzgerald in a $220 million Initial Public Offering.
2000 : Cantor Fitzgerald Investment Banking founded.
September 11, 2001: Cantor Fitzgerald, eSpeed and TradeSpark lose 658 people in the attack on the World Trade Center-nearly one quarter of the total casualties, an unfathomable human tragedy.

March 6, 2003: Cantor Fitzgerald adds Risk Arbitrage to Institutional S&T offerings
July 15, 2003: Cantor Fitzgerald expands Fixed Income Sales and Trading and launches Asset Management business2003: Cantor Viewpoint, comprehensive analysis and market commentary product launches
2003: Cantor Viewpoint, comprehensive analysis and market commentary product launches
2003: Cantor fully rebuilt, emerges as a leading financial services firm
2004: Cantor spins off its wholesale voice brokerage business to create BGC Partners L.P..
