Addressing the Limited WiMAX Spectrum Situation in the U.S
The WiMAX standard is rapidly maturing and becoming ready for network deployments. However, in the U.S there remains a major barrier, Spectrum. The spectrum options that exist are:
-Licensed 2.5 GHz, which is primarily owned by 3 large Telco's, and prevents others from deploying in this spectrum.
- Licensed 3.5 GHz ? This is not yet available, and may be years before the FCC approves it for WiMax deployment
- Unlicensed 5.8 GHz ? This is the only option for many Telco's, but it has many challenges due to the large amount of interference in this band, from multi-point systems, and consumer devices.

Learn more about the a new Spectrum & Tower Exchange resource site that provides an open or closed exchange for both primary (auction) and/or secondary market (post-auction) spectrum transactions to occur in which qualified license sellers/lessors or public sector entities can list (offer) their spectrum or tower assets in a multi-dimensional format showing coverage area, population, frequency range, radio service rules, terms and conditions etc. Buyers/lessees are electronically notified and/or capable of searching for these specific assets and can then bid on these spectrum and tower resources in a process that is completely secure, reliable, real-time, automated and online.
